A Primer on Drone & Doom

Where to start when you want music that moves like tectonic plates.

Drone and doom begin with duration. A chord is not simply struck; it is held until overtones appear, the room changes shape and listening becomes a physical commitment.

Start with volume at a level that reveals texture rather than erasing it. Beneath the apparent wall are slow harmonic movements, amplifier noise and pauses that carry as much weight as the riffs.

The genre rewards patience more than expertise. Follow the sustained guitar, then notice how percussion, voice and distortion alter your sense of time without needing conventional momentum.

The best entry point is whichever record makes stillness feel active. Once that sensation clicks, repetition stops sounding empty and begins to feel geological.
